Save Sight Now Europe is the extension of Save Sight Now - a charitable organization that has partnered with the Foundation Fighting Blindness to find and fund emerging treatments for Retinitis Pigmentosa associated with Usher syndrome type 1B.

Usher syndrome type 1B is a genetic disorder that deprives children of their sense of hearing and balance from birth, and rapidly deteriorates their vision to blindness before they reach adulthood. It is the most common form of childhood deafblindness, as it is the reason for 50% of cases worldwide.

Save Sight Now Europe is an organisation created to identify and financially support medical research that can save the sight of thousands of children and adults that are quickly losing their eyesight every single day. We stand on giants shoulders: Save Sight Now, an organization that has been working for years to support scientific research in collaboration with the Foundation Fighting Blindness, the world’s leading organization for retinal diseases to achieve a common goal: a treatment for Usher syndrome type 1 B.
Our goal
Find a cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa, the cause of blindness related to Usher Syndrome and the leading cause of blindness worldwide linked to various diseases and syndromes. We strive to reach a point in which people living with Usher Syndrome Type 1B, a widely neglected community, don’t lose their sight, which is an essential sense to experiment and experience the world around them. We know that this is possible because successful treatments for other kinds of retina conditions have already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as the Luxturna treatment for Leber Congenital Amaurosis disease..

Research We Are Funding
We have identified flagship teams of investigators who are working on therapeutic strategies that can potentially slow-down, stop or reverse degeneration of the retina caused by the Usher Syndrome. This year, 2022, with the support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, we are adding two new USH1B tracks of work in our funding programs. The addition of these two new programs means that Save Sight Now is currently funding a total of four USH1B research projects.
